About this product
Allopurinol Tablets are xanthine oxidase inhibitors indicated for:
Gout management – Prevents recurrent gout attacks, tophi formation, and joint damage.
Hyperuricemia in cancer therapy – Used in patients receiving chemotherapy for leukemia, lymphoma, or solid tumors to prevent uric acid buildup.
Kidney stone prevention – Reduces recurrence of calcium oxalate stones in patients with high uric acid excretion.
How it works:
Allopurinol reduces uric acid production by blocking the enzyme xanthine oxidase. Lower uric acid levels help prevent crystal formation in joints (gout) and kidneys (stones).
Dosage:
Adults (gout): Start with 100 mg daily, increase gradually to maintain serum uric acid ≤6 mg/dL. Maximum 800 mg/day.
Cancer therapy hyperuricemia: 300–800 mg daily.
Kidney stones: 200–300 mg daily.
Children (cancer therapy): 10 mg/kg/day, divided doses.
Side Effects:
Common: Rash, nausea, diarrhea.
Serious: Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver toxicity, hypersensitivity reactions.
Precautions:
Not for asymptomatic hyperuricemia.
Requires regular monitoring of kidney and liver function.
