About this product
Diamox Tablets contain Acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that helps reduce excess fluid and pressure in the body. This medicine is widely prescribed for the management of glaucoma, where it lowers intraocular pressure, and for the prevention and treatment of acute mountain (altitude) sickness. Diamox is also used in certain cases of epilepsy and fluid retention (edema) associated with heart failure or drug therapy.
The therapeutic action of Diamox works by decreasing the formation of hydrogen and bicarbonate ions, which reduces fluid build‑up and pressure. In glaucoma, this helps protect the optic nerve and preserve vision. In altitude sickness, Diamox improves breathing and oxygenation by correcting blood acidity and reducing fluid accumulation in the lungs and brain. It is also effective in managing seizures and reducing swelling caused by fluid retention.
Diamox Tablets should be taken strictly under medical supervision, as dosage varies depending on the condition being treated. Common side effects may include tingling in the hands or feet, loss of appetite, nausea, or drowsiness. Rare but serious effects can include electrolyte imbalance, kidney stones, or severe allergic reactions. It is not recommended for individuals with liver disease, severe kidney problems, or sulfonamide allergy. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.
